Punjab Arts Council warns theatres over disabled surveillance cameras

The Punjab Council of the Arts has issued notices to theatre halls across the province for switching off surveillance cameras during stage performances, warning that shows could be cancelled if monitoring systems remain disabled, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Tuesday.

The notices were issued by Director Operations Mughees Bin Aziz as part of a renewed crackdown on alleged obscenity, inappropriate performances and indecent dialogue in commercial theatre.

According to the council, any theatre found operating with its cameras switched off will face cancellation of its drama from the following day.

The administration said additional staff had also been deployed to strengthen electronic monitoring of stage performances across Punjab.

Officials said strict action would be taken against performers and theatre managements found involved in obscene dances, indecent dialogue or other violations of the approved script and performance guidelines.

Separate notices were issued to actress Saba Chaudhry at Sangam Theatre, Malaika Shahzadi at Kamal Theatre and Mahi Rajput at Noor Mahal Theatre over allegations of performing indecent dances.

The actresses and the managements of the three theatres have been directed to submit their written responses within two days.

The council said further action would be taken after reviewing their explanations.

Officials added that theatres were required to keep surveillance cameras operational throughout performances so that authorities could monitor compliance with regulations.

The council warned that repeated violations could lead to the cancellation of performances and other disciplinary measures against theatre owners, producers and performers.
