New day brings in new record of coronavirus cases in Pakistan

6,825 new patients registered across country while 81 die

Every day in Pakistan is now bringing in more and more coronavirus cases as the country reported the highest number of newly-infected people during the past 24 hours after which the total climbed to 139,230.

Apart from these 6,825 new cases recorded Saturday, another 81 people died from the virus during the same period, raising the death toll to 2,632.

The latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Sunday morning means that 35,559 new cases have so far been reported in the country this week [Monday to Saturday] along with 565 deaths.

Meanwhile, Punjab has now topped 50,000 cases with the addition of 2,514 new patients after which the total for the province jumped to 52,601. It is followed by Sindh where the number currently stands at 51,518 as another 2,262 people were diagnosed with the virus.

The two most-populated provinces are followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 17,450, Balochistan 8,028, Islamabad 7,934, Gilgit-Baltistan 1,095 and Azad Kashmir 604.

As of Sunday morning, Pakistan is about 4,000 shy of Mexico in terms of coronavirus cases, while it can be easily predicted that the two countries would certainly cross France – one of the worst-affected countries of the world with 156,813 cases and 29,398 deaths – in the coming days.

On the other hand, most of these latest deaths were recorded in Punjab where 31 patients lost their lives, raising overall number for the province to 969.

Sindh continued to be second on the list with 816 deaths. The figures for the remaining provinces/administrative units were: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 661, Balochistan 83, Islamabad 75, Gilgit-Baltistan 16 and Azad Kashmir 12.

Meanwhile, there are 84,863 active cases in the country while the number of closed ones is 54,367 after the death of 2,632 patients and 51,735 fully recovering from the infection.

On the other hand, another record was also set as 29,546 tests were conducted on Saturday, which is the highest daily number for the country. It means a total of 868,565 tests have so far been carried out in Pakistan since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Interestingly, there was no patient on ventilator in Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
