Hina Parvez Butt challenges Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar's remarks during heated discussion
Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority and a Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab (MPA) Hina Parvez Butt has publicly defended her stance on women's rights after a televised discussion with renowned writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.
The controversy emerged after Hina Parvez Butt challenged comments made by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar regarding the discussion of acid attacks and violence against women.
During the exchange, Qamar argued that certain narratives portray men as aggressors and unfairly paint the entire male gender in a negative light.
The politician mentioned that acknowledging violence against women is not an attack on men but rather an effort to recognize the experiences of victims and address serious societal issues.
"As a woman and a public representative, I believe it is my responsibility to speak up whenever narratives diminish the realities faced by women," she stated.
According to Hina, the daily realities faced by many women in Pakistan cannot be ignored.
She pointed to issues such as harassment, domestic abuse, violence, and acid attacks should not be viewed as an attempt to vilify men.
Instead, she described it as a call for greater awareness, empathy, and action.
The debate gained further attention after an incident involved a young doctor who reportedly suffered burn injuries after being attacked at her workplace.
For Hina, such incidents demonstrate why conversations about violence against women remain necessary.
She told that recognising these realities is essential for creating a safer society and ensuring that victims receive the support and attention they deserve.
"I respectfully disagreed because ignoring these realities does a disservice to countless women who face such challenges every day," she wrote.
The politician also clarified that advocating for women's rights does not mean blaming all men.
Rather, she argued that the goal is to acknowledge existing problems and work collectively toward solutions that protect women and improve social conditions.
