Jor Mela of Sikh leader Sri Guru Arjan Dev gets underway at Kartarpur
Two-day functions in connection with the 420th Jor Mela associated with Sikh leader Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji got underway at Kartarpur in Shakargarh on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the Evacuee Trust Property Board’s (ETPB) spokesman, 518 Sikh Yatrees from India will arrive in Kartarpur today via Wagah border.
During their one-day stay at Kartarpur, they will perform their religious rituals.
Special arrangements have been made for their stay, food and the provision of medical facilities, the spokesman informed.
Guru Arjan (April 15, 1563 –May 30, 1606) was the fifth of the10 Sikh Gurus.
He compiled the first official edition of the Sikh scripture called the Adi Granth, which later expanded into the Guru Granth Sahib.
He is regarded as the first of the two Gurus killed in the Sikh faith.
He is also credited with founding the settlements of Kartarpur (Jalandhar district), Hargobindpur and Tarn Taran.
