Top US official arriving in Pakistan for energy security talks

US Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources Assistant Secretary Geoffrey R Pyatt will arrive in Pakistan today (Tuesday) on a two-day visit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During his visit, Pyatt will travel to Lahore and Islamabad.

As Pakistan recovers from devastating floods and the global energy crisis, the Assistant Secretary will stress the US commitment to ensuring Pakistan’s sustainable energy future by promoting cooperation on regional energy security and the clean energy transition through the US-Pakistan Green Alliance.

In Lahore, Pyatt will visit the Lahore University of Management Sciences Electric Vehicle Labs to highlight technological advances made through US-Pakistan cooperation.

In Islamabad, he will lead the US delegation for the US-Pakistan Energy Security Dialogue.

Assistant Secretary Pyatt will also meet with officials from the Government of Pakistan and participate in a roundtable with women leaders in energy.

US supports democracy in Pakistan: Price

US State Department spokesperson Ned Price has said that Washington supports the democratic and constitutional system in Pakistan.

Addressing his last press conference as US State Department spokesperson in Washington on Monday, Ned Price said US does not take any position between political parties. “We do not support any political leader,” he added.

Ned Price stepped down after more than two years and will now take up a new position reporting to Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“Today was my final in-person press briefing. One person stands at the podium, but briefing requires assistance from many more. Thanks to my colleagues for the teamwork and to the reporters who ask tough and necessary questions every day. I’m grateful to have had this opportunity,” Ned Price announced in a tweet.
