William Shatner injured in horse riding accident, undergoes surgery

Veteran Hollywood star William Shatner has revealed he recently underwent shoulder surgery after suffering a serious injury during a horseback riding accident, showing that even at 94 he continues to pursue his longtime passion for riding.

According to the actor, the accident occurred late last year when he fell from one of his horses while training.

Shatner shared the update while attending the 53rd annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, California, where he accepted a Hall of Fame honor on behalf of the legendary science fiction franchise Star Trek.

 

Shatner explained that he regularly rides horses trained for competitive equestrian skills that involve sudden stops and quick maneuvers.

During one ride, the horse shifted unexpectedly, causing him to lose balance and fall hard onto his shoulder.

The impact shattered his right shoulder and required surgery, which he underwent on March 11.

 

The actor described the operation as a specialized procedure designed to restore mobility and reduce pain in damaged joints.

Doctors reportedly performed a reverse shoulder replacement, a modern surgical technique often used for severe shoulder fractures.

Despite the injury, Shatner has remained active and upbeat.

 

The actor also recently spoke about living with Tinnitus, a hearing condition that causes persistent ringing in the ears.

According to Shatner, the issue began decades ago while filming an explosive scene for the Star Trek episode “Arena,” when he stood too close to a special effects blast.

Born in Montreal in 1931, Shatner rose to global fame for portraying Captain James T. Kirk in the original series and later returned to the role in several films.

 

Beyond acting, he made headlines in 2021 when he became the oldest person to travel to space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket at age 90.

Even after decades in entertainment, Shatner continues to inspire fans with his resilience and adventurous spirit.
