Unfazed by the Sialkot police action against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers and leaders late Friday night, PTI Chairman Imran Khan reached the city on Saturday to address a public rally there, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The PTI was due to hold its public gathering in the city today, but the administration withdrew the permission it had granted to the party around eight days ago only a day before the event.
The administration said the land on which the PTI wanted to hold its rally belonged to the Christian community and they wanted to build a church there.
A large contingent of police arrived at the rally’s venue, teargassed and baton-charged the party workers and removed chairs and other material brought there for the purpose.
But this operation did not go without resistance as PTI leader Usman Dar and others stood in front of the heavy machinery to block its movement.
Resultantly, scores of workers, including Dar, were rounded up and taken to the prison.
The police action, however, later led to a change in the venue by the PTI, which said now it would hold the gathering on a cricket ground adjacent to its leader Usman Dar’s factory.
