Aurangzeb leaves for China to attend launch ceremony of Pakistan’s first Panda
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday departed for China to attend the launch ceremony of Pakistan’s first Panda Bond program in Beijing, marking Pakistan’s first-ever access to China’s domestic capital market.
According to official details, the Panda Bond launch is being described as a major milestone in Pakistan’s financial strategy, aimed at diversifying financing sources, strengthening investor confidence and expanding the country’s presence in global financial markets.
Officials said Pakistan is moving towards market-based financing alongside traditional funding sources, while the Panda Bond initiative reflects the country’s economic recovery and growing confidence among global investors.
The total size of the Panda Bond program has been set at $1 billion, with the initial issuance valued at the equivalent of $250 million. The issuance is being supported by the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, a move expected to further boost international investor confidence.
The development is also being viewed as a sign of improving economic indicators in Pakistan, including positive trends in exports, remittances and broader macroeconomic stability. Officials said the initiative demonstrates confidence by global financial institutions and investors in Pakistan’s reform agenda and economic direction.
The launch ceremony in Beijing will be attended by representatives of leading Chinese government and financial institutions, international financial organizations, investors and banking sector officials. Participating institutions include China’s Ministry of Finance, the People’s Bank of China, the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, China International Capital Corporation, Bank of China, Standard Chartered Bank and Hongta Securities.
A special presentation on Pakistan’s economy and investment opportunities will also be delivered during the event. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is expected to highlight Pakistan’s economic recovery, reform measures, investment-friendly policies and future economic vision in his address.
Officials said the event would also explore new avenues for economic cooperation between Pakistan and China, whose bilateral ties have long been based on strategic cooperation, mutual trust and economic partnership, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
During his visit, the finance minister is also expected to hold meetings with investors, financial institutions and Chinese officials to discuss bilateral economic cooperation, investment promotion and future financial collaboration. He is also scheduled to interact with Chinese media representatives.
