IHC summons IG police on Islamabad roads closure issue
The Islamabad High Court has summoned the IG police directing him to present a report regarding closure of roads due to protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers against the gun attack on their party chairman, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq on Monday heard a petition filed by the traders against the closure of city roads by the PTI protesters.
The court summoned Islamabad IG police on Nov 17 asking him to present a report about the roads closure.
Joint Secretary of Interior Ministry Shabbir Khattak appeared before the court.
During the hearing, the chief justice inquired that since motorway comes under the authority of federal government then why the government was not opening it.
The additional attorney general told the court that the law and order comes under the provincial jurisdiction that’s why the motorway was closed.
The CJ remarked that one would think that situation was very bad seeing the containers placed in Islamabad by the administration.
The judge inquired ‘why don’t you make a good riot force? Why do you put up containers’?
With this the court adjourned the hearing till Nov 17.
