Independence Day of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus celebrated

The Ambassador of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Buket Kop on Friday said the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus symbolizes the unwavering determination of its people.

She was addressing a reception hosted by the embassy to mark the Independence Day of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The reception was hosted by the Embassy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and was attended by a large number of political, diplomatic, and social personalities.

A large delegation from the Turkish Embassy, led by Türkiye’s Ambassador Dr. Irfan Naziroglu and Deputy Head of Mission Berk Ece, also participated in the event that began with the national anthems of Northern Cyprus and Pakistan.

In her welcome address, the Ambassador Buket Kop said that in Greek Cyprus, the rights of the Turkish Cypriots were being violated and they were subjected to discrimination. She reiterated that from 1960 to 1974, the rights of Turkish Cypriots were taken away, and in 1974, under Türkiye's lawful intervention, Northern Cyprus safeguarded the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Elaborating further she emphasized that the international community must ensure the protection of the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people. Buket Kaptan stressed that if both sides engage in sincere dialogue, a solution to the issue is possible.

Earlier, a documentary focusing the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people was also showcased at the reception.

The guests collectively participated in the cake cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.
