Sydney Sweeney stuns in goth Versace gown after Christy box-office flop

Sydney Sweeney made a striking comeback as she hit the red carpet at the 2025 GQ Men of the Year party, held at the iconic Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old actress commanded attention in a dramatic low-cut black Versace gown, marking her first major public appearance since the disappointing box-office performance of her latest film, Christy.

The Euphoria star fully embraced the event’s “’90s Hollywood Red Carpet” dress code, opting for a goth-inspired satin gown that highlighted her silhouette and featured a daring neckline.

Sweeney completed the bold look with a black choker and smoky eyeshadow, enhancing her icy blue eyes.

Her platinum blonde hair, styled in loose, textured waves, added to her dark-glam aesthetic.

Sweeney is among seven celebrities serving as cover stars for GQ’s 2025 Men of the Year issue, which marks the magazine’s 30th anniversary.

She is being honored as Actress of the Year and co-hosted the star-studded evening alongside Stephen Colbert, Seth Rogen, SZA, Oscar Isaac, Clipse, and Hailey Bieber.

Her return to the spotlight comes on the heels of the Christy fallout.

The biographical sports drama, in which Sweeney portrays Hall of Fame boxer Christy Martin, struggled at the box office, grossing just $1.3 million during its opening weekend across more than 2,000 theaters, ranking among the top 12 worst-performing wide releases of all time.

The film’s release followed backlash over Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans campaign, which faced criticism for a pun some viewers labeled racially insensitive.

Despite the controversy, Sweeney defended the project and her performance. In a recent Instagram post, she wrote: “I am so deeply proud of this movie… Proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. This experience has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”

The actress has also weathered criticism over her political affiliation after it surfaced earlier this year that she is a registered Republican, a detail that sparked debate in what many described as “woke Hollywood.”

Sweeney wasn’t the only star turning heads at the GQ event. Hailey Bieber, 28, also drew attention in a sheer black Gucci gown paired with a matching crystal-embellished thong, sending temperatures soaring on the red carpet.
