Minister details flood relief efforts in Sindh

Youth drowns in Nawabshah floodwater

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said that Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has provided 96 truck-mounted dewatering pumps, 35 tractor-mounted dewatering pumps, 81 ground standing dewatering pumps and 175 small dewatering pumps to the affected areas to accelerate the process of water drainage, reports 24NewsHD TV channel. 

According to Information Minister, the relief activities of Sindh government are going on and ration bags were provided to 34,893 more families in the last 24 hours meanwhile in total, ration bags were distributed to 164,8855 families. 3,000 more cattle mosquito nets and 12,000 more solar lights have been distributed among the flood victims. Meanwhile, more 500 victims have returned to their homes from the relief camps. Currently, there are 24, 2571 victims in the relief camps. The victims include 66939 children and 52865 women. 2-time cooked food is being provided to the victims in the relief camp.

He further added that the flow of water on the barrages of Sindh is at a low level and water level at Manchar Lake is 115.9 feet. 

On the other side, Afzal, a mentally challenged and epileptic youth, fell into the rainwater while crossing it in the Lakha Mahalla neighborhood of the Housing Society Nawabshah.

Family sources claim that the young man went missing for several hours until his dead body was discovered in the rainwater following a thorough search.

In response to the government's failure to drainage of the rainwater, the locals staged a violent protest. 

They lamented that the youth died due to the negligence of the administration and further demanded that the administration should drain the water immediately to avoid any further accidents.
