Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meetings with state heads bear fruit, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, he said the prime minister had pleasant meetings with different state heads and improved Pakistan’s ties with many countries. Pakistan's relations with many countries have improved, he added.

The defence minister has taken a jibe at the critics of the Sharif family, saying that questions were raised on the acquittal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz.

Khawaja Asif said that the court gave the verdict of acquitting the Sharif family in fraud cases.  The decisions were not made in closed rooms, he said.

Coming down hard on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, the defence minister said the former prime minister has nothing to do with public service. Imran Khan just wanted to mint money, he added.

In another address, the minister said the talks with the outlawed TTP failed to bear fruit.

He stressed that the country’s armed forces are fully capable to defend the motherland and coping with the challenges.  The centre will provide the KP with all-out support to maintain law and order.
