Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput appointed acting chief justice of Sindh High Court

Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment under Article 196 of the Constitution. Justice Rajput, the SHC’s senior puisne judge, will serve in the role until a permanent chief justice is appointed by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.

The appointment follows the retirement of Chief Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, who concluded his tenure today.

Born on October 16, 1965, in Hyderabad, Justice Rajput holds a Bachelor of Arts from Government City Arts College, an LLB from Government Jinnah Law College, and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Sindh.

He began his legal career in 1990 after enrolling with the Sindh Bar Council, and was admitted as an advocate of the high court in 2001. In 1993, he joined the judiciary as a judicial magistrate, and was elevated to the Sindh High Court bench on August 31, 2013.

According to his official profile, Justice Rajput has presided over more than 12,000 cases spanning a wide range of legal areas, including property disputes, intellectual property, rent, family law, arbitration, banking, and criminal matters. He is particularly known for his interest in human rights and civil liberties.
