PDMA issues alert for 11th spell of monsoon rains from Sep 16
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for the 11th spell of monsoon rains across the province, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, heavy rains are expected in the upper catchment areas of rivers between September 16 and 19, raising the risk of flooding in streams and nullahs.
In line with the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister, commissioners, deputy commissioners, and officers of all relevant departments have been instructed to remain on high alert.
The warning has been extended to the departments of health, irrigation, communications and works, local government, and livestock.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia cautioned that monsoon rains could trigger flash floods in river tributaries.
He appealed to citizens to adopt safety measures, avoid gatherings near rivers, and refrain from unnecessary travel during stormy weather.
“In case of emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129,” the DG added.
