Residents fume as Burberry plans star-studded show at Prince William, Kate’s home

Residents of one of Britain’s wealthiest streets, dubbed Billionaires’ Row, have voiced strong objections to a planned Burberry fashion show at Kensington Palace, where Prince William and Princess Kate reside.

The luxury brand has applied to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for permission to stage the event later this month on Perks Field, part of the royal couple’s private garden.

The move has angered affluent neighbours, who fear the star-studded London Fashion Week show will bring excessive traffic, noise pollution and litter to the exclusive enclave.

Among the complainants is the High Commissioner of India, who highlighted concerns that the disturbance could disrupt diplomatic engagements hosted at his residence.

A local residents’ association also submitted objections, describing the growing “commercialisation” of Perks Field as “intrusive.”

Burberry, however, insists it has consulted with the Royal Household, Crown Estate and local stakeholders before moving ahead with its plans.

The venue has previously hosted fashion shows for the brand in 2014, 2015 and 2016, as well as a multi-million-pound racehorse auction.

Tensions have been heightened by long-running disputes in the area, including billionaire property developer Jon Hunt’s controversial basement renovations.

Hunt, the founder of Foxtons estate agency, has been locked in a 17-year battle with neighbours over his plans to build a four-storey underground extension featuring a carousel for his vintage cars.

While Burberry hopes to showcase its collection against the royal backdrop, some residents argue the high-profile event will erode the peace and exclusivity of Kensington Palace Gardens, home to diplomats, business magnates and royals alike.

The local council is expected to review objections before granting final approval for the show.
