TikToker Sana Yousaf murder case: IHC reserves verdict on Umar Hayat’s petition

The Islamabad High Court has reserved its verdict on a petition by accused Umar Hayat seeking transfer of the Sana Yousaf murder trial to another court as allegations of bias and unfair proceedings.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar heard detailed arguments from both sides before reserving the decision, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

The defense counsel for Umar Hayat argued that the trial court’s conduct had been unfair and biased, claiming they were not given a proper opportunity to conduct cross examination.

He further alleged that despite not seeking delays, proceedings were rushed, including instances where a state counsel was appointed to complete cross examination within a limited time.

The defense also requested that earlier cross examination proceedings be set aside and a fresh opportunity be granted, insisting that the case be transferred to another court due to lack of trust in the current trial court.

On the other hand, the complainant’s lawyer maintained that the defense had repeatedly sought delays and even objected to the trial judge.

He argued that the model court had already provided ample facilitation and opportunities to the accused.

The Chief Justice observed that the trial court was a model court operating under Supreme Court directives and questioned how proceedings could continue smoothly given the conduct of the defense counsel.

The court also remarked on delays and procedural objections raised during the trial.After hearing all arguments, the Islamabad High Court reserved its verdict on the transfer application.
