Oxford AQA unveils major reforms to international exam system from 2026

Oxford AQA has announced a series of major reforms to its international examination system, introducing faster result timelines, additional exam sessions, and expanded academic opportunities for students worldwide.

According to details, the changes will be implemented in phases between 2026 and 2029, aiming to provide greater flexibility and improved planning for students seeking admission to global universities.

A key highlight of the reforms is the introduction of three exam sessions per year, allowing candidates more opportunities to sit for assessments. In addition, Oxford AQA will accelerate the release of results, with outcomes for the May/June exam series set to be issued earlier than usual, starting from July 2027.

The board also announced structural changes to A-level examinations. From 2028, A-level exams will be introduced in the October/November session, with further expansion planned for January 2029, offering students increased scheduling options.

As part of efforts to enhance academic pathways, Oxford AQA will expand access to the International Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), enabling submissions twice a year instead of the current single opportunity.

Moreover, the application deadline for the May/June exam session will be extended from 2027 onwards, with registrations now closing in early March, giving schools and students additional time for preparation.

Oxford AQA said the reforms are designed to align its system more closely with international university admission cycles, ensuring students receive their results in time to make informed decisions about higher education.
