Poliovirus confirmed in sewage samples from 8 more districts of country

The spread of poliovirus continues to increase in Pakistan as poliovirus confirmed in sewage samples from eight more districts of the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

In this regard, the Regional Reference Laboratory established at the National Institute of Health has confirmed.

According to National Health Institute, wild poliovirus type 1 was found in environmental samples from seven previously affected districts.

The number of poliovirus-affected districts has increased to 83 after the confirmation of new cases.

The virus has been found in environmental samples collected from seven affected districts.

Polio virus has also been reported in environmental samples from Charsadda district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the first time.

This year, 63 cases of polio virus have been reported in the country, the National Institute of Health said.
