Punjab govt approves Rs5 billion to strengthen forest protection

The Punjab government has approved Rs5 billion in additional funds to enhance forest protection across the province.

The decision aims to strengthen the forest enforcement system and curb illegal activities threatening valuable forest resources.

According to authorities, the allocated funds will be used to provide additional resources to the Forests Department, enabling it to take effective action against the timber mafia and other elements involved in forest crimes. The enforcement force will also be upgraded to improve its operational capacity.

As part of the initiative, new vehicles, equipment, and necessary infrastructure will be purchased to support field operations. The government also plans to improve monitoring and enforcement mechanisms, ensuring better surveillance and timely action to prevent illegal logging and encroachment.

Officials stated that these measures will significantly enhance the institutional capacity of the Forests Department. The initiative is also expected to support the government’s broader goals of increasing forest cover and providing long-term environmental protection.

The Punjab government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding natural resources, emphasizing that stronger enforcement and improved capacity will play a vital role in preserving forests for future generations.
