Karachi police register FIR under terror charges against JI's 30 protesters

Police in Karachi have registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against leaders and workers of Jamaat-e-Islami following clashes that erupted during a sit-in in the Red Zone near the Sindh Assembly, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the first information report (FIR) was lodged at Aram Bagh Police Station under the state’s complaint, invoking charges that include rioting, unlawful assembly, interference in official duties, violence and violation of Section 144. 

According to the FIR, inflammatory speeches were delivered during the protest, and approximately 300 to 325 participants suddenly turned violent, engaging in vandalism. Thirty individuals have been named in the case.

The confrontation unfolded on Saturday when Karachi police used baton charges and tear gas to disperse demonstrators gathered near the provincial assembly. Protesters allegedly responded with stone-pelting, triggering clashes that resulted in multiple detentions.

Officials said more than 10 workers were taken into custody during the operation. Authorities also seized the sound system truck accompanying the rally. Law enforcement representatives claimed that at least three police personnel were injured in stone-throwing by protesters.
