Pakistan virus caseload rises to 254,723, deaths 5,386

Pakistan reported another 2,165 coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours (Tuesday), raising the overall number to 254,723.

The latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Wednesday morning also show that 67 patients died of the virus during the same period which means the official death toll has now increased to 5,386.

Currently, there are 77,573 active Covid-19 cases in the country out of which 3,727 are in hospitals. Further details of the hospitalised patients reveal that 2,078 of them are in a critical condition and being treated in intensive care units where 339 are ventilators.

On the other hand, 172,810 people have so far fully recovered from the infection. It means that the number of closed cases has now jumped to 178,196.

The officials also conducted 21,749 tests in the country on Tuesday, which increased the overall number to 1,627,939.

As far as the region-wise details of the infected people are concerned, Sindh continues to top the list with 107,773 cases. It is followed by 88,045 in Punjab, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,325 in Islamabad, 11,239 in Balochistan, 1,708 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,688 in Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile, most of the deaths have been recorded in Punjab with 2,043 people dying of the deadly virus. The figures for the other provinces/regions are: Sindh 1,863, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,114, Islamabad 155, Balochistan 127, Azad Kashmir 46 and Gilgit-Baltistan 38.
