The funeral prayers of late former president Mamnoon Hussain who passed away yesterday will be held today (Thursday) after Asr prayers at Sultan Mosque, Defence Phase 5, Karachi.

He was 80. His son Arsalan Mamnoon confirmed the death of the former president.

The former president was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital for the last two weeks, his son said.

Mamnoon Hussain was the 12th president of Pakistan, who served from 2013 to 2018 during the tenure of the PML-N. He was one of the most senior PML-N leaders.

The deceased had earned an MBA degree from the prestigious Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi. He originally hailed from Agra in India

Born in Agra, British India in 1940, his family migrated to settle in Karachi in 1949.

After being homeschooled, Hussain enrolled in Karachi University where he studied for the Commerce degree. After graduating from the Karachi University in 1963, he entered the master's program at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi and obtained his MBA degree in 1965.

Initially supporting and strengthening his father's business, he later founded his own textile company in Karachi. He later joined the center-right Pakistan Muslim League in 1970, working as a party worker. In 1997, he earned public notability as a business leader when he was elected as president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, serving until May 1999.

Originally a businessman, Mamnoon Hussain had started his political career as a Muslim Leaguer in 1969. At the time, he was made the joint secretary of the Karachi chapter of the League when former minister of state for foreign affairs Zain Noorani was its president.
