Britney Spears' baby adoption claim met with fan scepticism

Pop icon Britney Spears sparked confusion and buzz across social media on Sunday after claiming she has adopted a baby girl — but fans aren’t convinced the announcement is genuine.

In a lengthy Instagram post accompanied by a video of her dancing in a revealing pink monokini and black boots, the 43-year-old singer wrote: “I adopted a beautiful baby girl!!! Her name is Lennon London Spears!!!” She followed the message with playful emojis, including winks and silly faces, prompting many fans to question whether she was serious.

Spears, known for her unpredictable and often cryptic posts, did not share any photos of a child — and turned off comments on the original post. Nonetheless, speculation quickly spread across other platforms.

“Let’s be honest, it’s probably a doll,” one Reddit user wrote.

“She’s obviously talking about a new dog or toy, not a human being,” another fan commented on X (formerly Twitter).

This isn’t the first time the Toxic singer has made sensational claims. In December 2024, she stated she was “moving to Mexico,” which later proved to be false. In her latest video, she also announced plans to move to Italy, further leaving fans puzzled.

Adding to the scepticism is a now-deleted post from January in which Spears stated she was “serious” about adopting a baby girl, but no formal steps or updates followed since. Some fans recalled that in a July 10 post, a baby carrier was visible in the background — fuelling both curiosity and doubt.

Britney is already a mother to two sons — Sean, 19, and Jayden, 18 — whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline. She has not publicly confirmed any legal adoption process, and DailyMail.com reports that her team has yet to respond to requests for comment.

Some online commentators expressed concern, questioning whether the singer’s recent social media behavior reflects deeper personal issues. “Adoption is a long, complex process,” one user noted. “I’ll believe it when I see the baby.”

Still, Spears’ core fanbase remained supportive, with many embracing her eccentric social media presence as part of her personality post-conservatorship.
