Govt fixes ex-mill sugar price at Rs165/kg, vows strict action against hoarding

An important meeting on sugar pricing was held under the chairmanship of the Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, where key decisions were taken to stabilise the sugar market and provide relief to consumers.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman and senior members of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) and focused on ensuring the immediate and effective implementation of the newly fixed ex-mill price of sugar at Rs165 per kilogram.

The association assured the government of prompt compliance, adding that the positive impact of the reduced price will be visible to the public within the next two to three days.

Rana Tanveer Hussain said the government will enforce strict implementation of the retail price and take all necessary steps to curb hoarding and illegal profiteering.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining the abundant and uninterrupted availability of sugar in the market, stressing that providing affordable and quality sugar to the public remains a top priority.

The Sugar Mills Association welcomed the government’s intervention and expressed full cooperation in implementing the agreed measures. The ministry has also developed an effective strategy to monitor supply chains and take action against any violations.
