Medicines worth over Rs300 million purchased by Sindh health dept go missing 

The auditor general of Pakistan (AGP) has expressed the fear that medicines worth over Rs300 million purchased by the Sindh health department have simply vanished, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday. 

In a report for the year, 2023-24 compiled by the AGP, it has been revealed that medicines are on paper, but they are not in the stock. And this is yet to be determined whether the medicines were stolen or they were not there from the very beginning. 

The report says reports have been received that say that medicines were consumed even during the absence of patients.

The report further says that the possibility that these medicines might have been stolen cannot be ruled out either. 

The AGP informs that the issue was taken up with the health department in October 2024. 

It has been disclosed in the report that when the stores of Hepatitis Control Programme, Hyderabad and PMC, Nawabshah were searched, medicines were not there. 

Apart from that, the audit department has not been provided the record of medicines.

The report recommends action against those responsible.
