Political parties directed to submit audited financial statements by August 29

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed all political parties in the country to submit financial statements for the fiscal year by August 29, 2025.

In an official directive issued to the heads of all registered political parties on Tuesday, the ECP has reminded them of their legal obligation to furnish detailed account statements under the rules set out under Form D. 

These submissions must be completed through a chartered accountant and are to include full disclosures of the parties’ annual income and expenditures, sources of funding, assets, and liabilities.

The directive further emphasized that the financial declarations must be submitted within 60 days of the end of the fiscal year, as per the Election Act. 

It further clarified that the audit reports must be duly signed by an authorized official of the party and accompanied by the party leader’s certification.

 According to the ECP, these financial disclosures are essential for maintaining transparency and ensuring accountability in the political process. 

The measure also aligns with the legal framework that governs the functioning and regulation of political parties in Pakistan.

 Failure to submit the financial statements within the specified deadline may result in action under the relevant provisions of the law, including possible restrictions on the party’s participation in future electoral processes.

 The ECP has urged party leaders to treat this matter with urgency and ensure that all necessary documentation is prepared and submitted in compliance with the required standards.
