FinMin Aurangzeb discusses economic reforms with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday to discuss Pakistan's economic reform agenda, financial stability and avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the two sides held detailed discussions on Pakistan-UK economic cooperation, the federal budget for 2026-27 and measures taken by the government to strengthen financial stability.

During the meeting, Aurangzeb reaffirmed the government's commitment to continuing structural reforms aimed at ensuring economic stability and sustainable development.

The finance minister said expanding the tax net and enhancing investor confidence remain among the government's top priorities. He added that efforts are under way to broaden Pakistan's access to global capital markets through the issuance of bonds, Sukuk and Panda bonds.

Aurangzeb also highlighted progress on innovative financial instruments, including the tokenisation of sovereign debt, and said reforms are being introduced in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) through the use of artificial intelligence, a faceless tax administration system and risk-based tax mechanisms to improve transparency and efficiency.

The meeting also reviewed progress on energy sector reforms and the privatisation of state-owned enterprises as part of the government's wider economic transformation programme.

According to the Finance Ministry, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, financial markets and climate change.

The British High Commissioner welcomed Pakistan's progress towards economic stability and reiterated the United Kingdom's support for the country's ongoing reform agenda, the ministry said.
