IHC seeks report on sheesha cafes in federal capital

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought details about the number of sheesha (hooka) cafes operating in the federal capital and the action taken against those breaking the rules, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The case was heard by IHC Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar Wednesday on a petition filed by citizen Abdul Jabbar.

During the hearing, the court issued notices to the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner, and Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police, asking them to submit their replies.

The court also ordered the Deputy Commissioner and IG Islamabad Police to appear in person at the next hearing.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer, Advocate Sohail Khurshid, told the court that many sheesha cafes in Islamabad are operating without the required No Objection Certificate (NOC). He said that parties at these cafes continue from evening until late at night, and in some cases until the early morning.

When Chief Justice Dogar asked why the details of sheesha cafes were being requested, the lawyer said the court should ask authorities to provide complete information about all sheesha cafes in Islamabad. He also requested details of action taken against cafes which violated the rules or NOC condition.

The lawyer also mentioned a statement by the Health Minister, saying that late-night parties may be linked to the spread of HIV and AIDS. He requested the court to seek full records from the authorities and take action against cafes that are not following the law.

After issuing notices to the officials, the Islamabad High Court postponed the hearing until next week.
