Leaves of jail staff in Punjab cancelled

The Punjab Prisons Department has cancelled leaves of its employees, barring medical leaves and those sought for attending a wedding ceremony, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In this connection, Deputy Inspector-General Prisons issued a notification on Sunday.
The decision was taken in view of the Malir Jailbreak in which 216 prisoners had escaped from the jail.
Absence of relevant officials at important sites of the jail was also said to be one of the reasons for the jail break.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab Prisons Department is presently facing a shortage of 1,040 wardens, 1,512 head wardens and 94 chief wardens.
