Karachi Port crosses 2,000-Vessel mark after eight years

Karachi Port has achieved a major milestone by handling more than 2,000 vessels during a fiscal year for the first time in eight years, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

According to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), a total of 2,003 vessels berthed at Karachi Port during the fiscal year, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year.

The number of vessel arrivals rose by 7.5 percent on an annual basis.

KPT said the cumulative tonnage of ships calling at the port exceeded 84.4 million tons during the period.

Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT), a key indicator of shipping activity, also recorded a 3 percent increase.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs said the rise in maritime trade is an encouraging sign for Pakistan’s economy and reflects increasing commercial activity through the country’s largest seaport.

Meanwhile, KPT Chairman Shahid Ahed said Karachi Port, established in 1887, continues to serve as Pakistan’s most important maritime trade gateway.
