Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday hailed the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a triumph of diplomacy and a significant step towards regional and global stability.

Addressing the National Assembly, he expressed special gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for his cooperation in advancing diplomatic efforts.

He also acknowledged the support of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Amir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Prime Minister said that after more than three months of sustained efforts, an agreement had been reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He stated that the accord included the cessation of military operations by the United States on all fronts, including Lebanon, and marked a new opportunity for peace in the region.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s efforts to halt the escalation of conflict and create space for dialogue had proved successful.

He informed lawmakers that the formal signing ceremony of the agreement would be held in Geneva on 19 June under arrangements facilitated by Pakistan.

“The sun of peace has risen after the darkness of war,” the prime minister told the House, while congratulating the international community, the leadership of the United States and Iran, and all stakeholders involved in the negotiations.

He said the success of the peace agreement had enhanced Pakistan’s standing internationally and argued that the country's mediation role would be remembered as a significant chapter in diplomatic history.

Paying tribute to Syed Asim Munir, the prime minister said the peace initiative would not have succeeded without his tireless efforts.

PM Shehbaz stated that the Field Marshal had worked day and night to help extinguish the threat of war and support initiatives aimed at securing peace and stability.

The Prime Minister also commended Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi for handling important responsibilities throughout the process.

The Prime Minister said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi carried out important matters with great responsibility in the entire process.

"I commend Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for his important role in the success of the negotiations," he said.

He also praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for his active and constructive role in the diplomatic engagement.

During the prime minister's address, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam, was present in the visitors’ gallery of the National Assembly.

Upon his arrival, members of the House welcomed him with a standing ovation and applause, reflecting the significance attached to the agreement and the growing spirit of diplomatic cooperation.

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing hope that the agreement would usher in a period of lasting peace, dialogue and cooperation, benefiting not only the parties directly involved but also the wider region and the international community.
