Blome-Shehbaz meeting: PM highlights SIFC role to attract foreign investment

Prime minister raises Aafia issue with American ambassador

US Ambassador Donald Blome met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday, said a statement issued by Acting US Mission Spokesperson Thomas Montgomery,

During the meeting, regional security, US support for continued economic reforms, trade and investment, education, climate change, and private sector-led economic growth came under discussion.

 

Ambassador Blome also expressed US support for Pakistan’s democracy and the key role of an independent press.

According to a PMO press release, the prime minister said his government would focus on macroeconomic reforms to stabilize the economy and attract foreign investment.

He highlighted the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) which has been established to accelerate foreign investment in priority sectors in Pakistan.

The due deliberated upon the situation in Gaza and the Red Sea, developments in Afghanistan.

The PM strongly raised the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui with the American Ambassador. The envoy also greeted the PM on the re-election and said that the United States considers Pakistan an important partner and looks forward to working with the government to build stronger ties between the two countries.
