CTD arrests suspected militant in Hyderabad, recovers explosives

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Sunday arrested a suspected militant during an intelligence-based operation at the Airport Police Check Post in Hyderabad, officials said.

According to CTD officials, the suspect, described as a self-proclaimed missing militant, was taken into custody after returning to Hyderabad from Balochistan.

Station House Officer (SHO) CTD Hyderabad Asif Hayat said the accused was arrested from Sarmast Colony, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Airport Police Check Post.

Officials said explosives and other materials were recovered from the suspect during the operation. The seized items include detonators, cord wire, homemade crackers, an improvised explosive device (IED), and weapons.

CTD officials said they had received prior intelligence about the suspect’s presence and planned activities in the area.

According to the officials, the suspect allegedly intended to carry out a target killing and sabotage the railway track leading to Punjab.

Investigators further said the accused had travelled to Hyderabad from Balochistan on the instructions of his commander, identified as Zulfiqar Khaskheli.

Further investigation into the case is underway, officials added.
