Farah Khan opens up on 90s underworld threats to Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir
Choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan recently opened up about the darker side of Bollywood during the 1990s on a podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, shedding light on underworld influence in the industry and a terrifying incident involving Karan Johar.
Farah recalled that while the 1980s were a weak phase for Hindi cinema, the 1990s brought not just creative revival but also dangerous challenges, including the growing reach of the underworld. She recounted the shocking murder of film producer Mukesh Duggal around 1993–94 and how it highlighted the perils surrounding the film industry at the time.
When asked if Bollywood’s biggest stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan were pressurised by the underworld, Farah confirmed that such pressure did exist. She also revealed a frightening moment during the premiere of Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, when an underworld threat prompted discussions about whether to cancel the event.
“Everyone was discussing whether the premiere should be cancelled or we should go ahead with it,” Farah said, describing the tense atmosphere.
Beyond Bollywood, Farah has found massive success on YouTube with her cooking vlog launched in April 2024, featuring her long-time cook Dilip. The channel quickly went viral, earning nearly 3 million subscribers, while Farah also boasts 4.5 million Instagram followers.
