Punjab govt gears up for crackdown on hoarders, profiteers

The Punjab government has decided to launch a crackdown on hoarders and profiteers responsible for creating an artificial price hike, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Saturday directed the Cabinet Price Control Committee to initiate a crackdown on traders who are involved in hoarding and profiteering thus raising the prices of essential commodities artificially.

Buzdar asked the cabinet committee to make sure that essential items were being sold at fixed prices. He also directed the committee to take action against hoarders under Anti-Hoarding Ordinance, 2020.

Buzdar said he would not tolerate any negligence in the provision of essential items’ availability at fixed prices. He vowed to take action against hoarders according to the law. He said hoarders and profiteers did not deserve any concession. He pledged to go to any extent to provide relief to the people. 

The Punjab chief minister said it was paramount to crush the mafia involved in hoarding in order to protect the rights of people. He vowed to take every measure to bring stability in the prices of daily use items. The unfair price hike will not be tolerated, he added. He said he would safeguard the interests of the common man.

Buzdar said his government would take every step to provide relief to the masses. He condemned the act of hoarding saying hoarders and profiteers were enemies of society.
