Pillion riding banned in Rawalpindi district for seven days

Rawalpindi administration Monday while extending the already imposed Section 144 in the district for seven days also banned pillion riding, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.

Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Dr Hasan Waqar Cheema has issued a notification in this regard.

According to a notification, there will be a ban on pillion riding on Motorcycles /Scooters within the Revenue limits of Rawalpindi District. This order shall not apply to Armed Forces Police Personnel in uniform and on duty. The exemption is allowed for females and children under the age of twelve years and press personnel with possession of valid photo identity besides CNIC.

According to the notification, the move has been made after receiving credible reports from intelligence sources that there is an imminent threat of terrorist activity within the limits of District Rawalpindi which can create a potential law and order situation entailing likely damage to human life and public property.

Taking this in view, the deputy commissioner has imposed ban on all kinds of assemblies, gatherings, sits-in, rallies, processions, demonstrations, jalsas, dharnas, protests and such like other activities.

A ban is also imposed on carrying weapons, spikes, laden batons, gaulails, ball bearings, petrol bombs, improvised explosives or any other instrument that could potentially be used for violence.

The notification said any attempt to remove any restriction imposed by a Police Office to regulate the assembly of persons or movement of traffic will also be dealt with.

There is also a ban on the use of loudspeakers without permission of lawful authority except for Azan.

The order will remain enforced for a period of seven days i.c May 15 till May 21, May 2023.
