Shops and markets in Punjab exempted from 8pm closing restriction

The Punjab government has relaxed closing time regulations for shops, markets, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, and food outlets across the province until June 1, 2026, in a move aimed at supporting businesses and increasing commercial activity.

According to 24NewsHD TV, the decision was announced through a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) on Friday, allowing commercial centres to remain exempt from fixed closing timings during the relaxation period.

Officials said the step was taken to provide relief to the trader community and facilitate economic activity across the province, particularly ahead of increased Eid-ul-Adha shopping demand.

In a separate move, the district administration in Lahore also withdrew the earlier restriction requiring markets to close at 8 p.m.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Capt. (r) Muhammad Ali Ijaz said the previous time limit had been removed with immediate effect, allowing businesses to continue operations for extended hours.

He added that the decision was intended to make shopping more convenient for citizens while helping traders improve business activity in the provincial capital.
