The Federal Board of Revenue has started the electronic monitoring of the production and supply of the sugar mills in order to check the tax avoidance by the millers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

The FBR has restrained the sugar mills that they can’t dispatch sacks of sugar without tax stamps on them, making it mandatory that every sack should have a unique identification mark on it.

The revenue board has also started monitoring of sugar crushing season 2021-22. It has issued the 2021-22 sales tax general order of Nov 5.

The board had already issued laws for the implementation of the track and trace system on Feb 26, 2019.

According to the FBR authorities, the board will be able to measure the original quantity of sugar production and the record of how much raw material has been used by the sugar millers with the help of electronic monitoring.

The FBR will retrieve the online monitoring data from the sugar mills from the time when they will buy sugarcane from growers and start sugar production.

The revenue board has planned to do online monitoring of the production of five sectors including sugar, tobacco, beverages, fertilizers and cement.
