Lahore court adjourns May 9 cases against PTI leaders

An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Saturday took up for cases related to May 9 riots against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers.

Askari Tower attack case was one of the four cases the court took up today.

The court took up former Punjab health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid's bail applications in four cases. As the prosecution sought time to submit the case record, the court adjourned the hearing on bails until November 22. The court also ordered the prosecution to submit the record. Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Manzar Ali Gul conducted the hearing and Rana Mudassar Umar Advocate appeared on behalf of the accused.

Umar said, "We have completed the arguments on bails and the decision on bails is delayed due to the prosecution."

Dr Yasmin Rashid has filed bail applications from the jail in the Askari Tower attack case and other cases like burning of police vehicles in Mughalpura, Zaman Park and a square near Jinnah House.

Umar Sarfraz Cheema's bail hearing

Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Manzar Ali Gul took up former Punjab governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema's bail applications in five cases.

The prosecution sought time to submit the case records and the court adjourned the hearing on bail applications till November 18.

The court called for arguments from the lawyer on bails at the next hearing. The court also directed the prosecution to complete arguments on bails.

Cheema has filed bail applications in the Jinnah House attack case, Askari Tower attack case and other cases such as burning of police vehicles near Zaman Park, Mughalpura and Jinnah House.

The accused has filed bail applications from the jail. He has already been convicted in four other May 9-related cases on charges of sedition and incitement.

Club Chowk GOR gate attack case

Hearing of a petition seeking jail trial of the accused in the GOR gate attack case was adjourned till November 18.

Ten police officers named witnesses in this case appeared before the court on Saturday.

The accused's lawyers completed partial cross-examination of the witnesses on their statements before the court ordered the witnesses to appear again at the next hearing.

The statements of all the witnesses were recorded, the cross-examination statements have yet to be submitted.

Anti-Terrorism Court Admin Judge Manzar Ali Gul heard case inside Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail. A total of 56 witnesses have testified in the case so far as the trial of the case is nearing completion.

The Race Course Police Station has registered a case of Club Chowk GOR attack. The accused allegedly broke the security cameras of Club Chowk and GOR. The accused also broke the windows of the police van and G and R gates. The accused damaged government property and attacked police officials. The mob led by PTI leader Hammad Azhar carried out these attacks.

Earlier, attendance of the accused in custody like Dr Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry and Mian Mahmood-ul-Rasheed was marked. Rana Mudassar Umar and Mian Ali Ammar Advocate appeared on behalf of the accused.
