LHC’s Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza ‘resigns’

Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza has resigned from his post, reported 24NewsHD TV channel, quoting sources.

The sources confided to 24News TV channel on Saturday that Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza sent his resignation to President of Pakistan.

The resignation came following senior-most judge of the Supreme Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah quit their offices after the passage of 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was likely to be transferred after the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He also vacated his chamber after resigning.

The resignations of Supreme Court judges Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah were accepted by President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday.

PA speaker expects more resignations of judges

Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan has said that the judges' resignations will not stop here and they know more judges will opt to quit their offices.

Talking to media men in Lahore on Saturday, Malik Ahmed Khan said everyone knows everyone's past and who was used to make decisions and how. 

Malik Ahmed Khan questioned have people now retreated from the position of the powerful parliament on protecting the Constitution of Pakistan. 

Punjab Assembly Speaker said the court's attempt to write the constitution is not right.

Appointments of judges was made on personal likings instead of merit in the past, Punjab Assembly Speaker said.

He said there are judges who want to punish one party and only one party was being given justice.

I met the Chief Justice and he told me factual situation personally, Malik Ahmed Khan said.

Malik Ahmad Khan questioned was it the right decision to remove Nawaz Sharif from the government and was it the right decision to remove Yousaf Raza Gilani? 

Will the judge also make his own appointment? Malik Ahmed Khan further questioned.
