A newlywed bride was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband in Bahawalpur for not returning ‘Mehr’ (dower).

According to details, Muhammad Ajmal, a resident of Uch Sharif, tied the knot with Nusrat four months ago and gave his wife a valuable plot as Mehr at the time of their marriage.

After one month of marriage, Ajmal started asking her to return him the plot, but she refused to do so.

On Thursday, Ajmal once again asked his wife to return the plot, but she refused. The couple exchanged words over the issue and Ajmal allegedly stabbed her to death. He then slit his throat in an attempted to commit suicide.

Ajmal was shifted to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment. Police and rescue officials rushed to the scene and shifted Nusrat’s body to hospital for medicolegal formalities. The police registered a case and launched investigations into the murder.
