Taking notice of a major error in the printing of the second Kalima-e-Shahadat in schoolbooks, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) Managing Director and secretary school education to submit to it a report on the books approved for each and every school of the province and how they were in their printed forms on November 3, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A two-member bench of the LHC, headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, heard the case.
The court also asked the MD to later satisfy it that all textbooks were error-free.
The LHC asked the Punjab Curriculum Board MD whether all the books being taught at Punjab schools had been approved by the Board, or was there any case in which unapproved books were being taught at any school.
The court directed the Board MD to make sure there is no derogatory word used for the Holy Quran, Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Islamic ideology and most revered personalities of the Islamic history.
Apart from that, it added, the authorities should also check whether the information given in these books about religion Islam and religious personalities was authentic.
The court urged the Board to ensure that the books should be free of errors and mistakes.
Similarly, stressing that the teaching of Holy Quran at educational institutions is mandatory under the constitution, the LHC on Friday also ordered the Punjab government to tell how much time had been allocated for the teaching of Holy Quran at schools and how many teachers had been assigned duties for this purpose.
The high court also directed the government to inform whether arrangements had been made for teaching the holy book at all schools, or opposite was the case.
