Pakistan and England cricketers observe silence to mourn Shawwal Zulfiqar’s father
Players from the Pakistan and England women’s cricket teams paid their respects to Pakistani off-spinner Shawwal Zulfiqar following the passing of her father, Zulfiqar Ahmed, ahead of their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Wednesday.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a poignant video on its official social media platforms, showing members of both sides observing a moment of silence before the match began, honoring the memory of Shawwal’s late father.
According to family sources, Zulfiqar Ahmed had been unwell for some time and was laid to rest in Sialkot on Tuesday.
Teammates, coaches, and management staff offered heartfelt condolences and moral support to Shawwal during this difficult time, with a Fatiha (prayer for the deceased) also recited in his memory.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, extending condolences to Shawwal and her family.
In his message, he prayed that Allah Almighty grant the departed soul eternal peace and bless the bereaved family with strength and patience to bear the loss. Ameen.
