Shagufta Ejaz raises alarm over cyber threats after shocking incident
Pakistani veteran actress Shagufta Ejaz has raised serious concerns over rising cybercrime, sharing a troubling incident involving a close family friend to alert the public about online scams.
According to her, the victim received a call from someone posing as a courier company representative, who initially asked for a TCS number and later requested a verification code sent to the victim’s phone.
Believing the request to be legitimate, the victim shared the code, which led to their WhatsApp account being hacked.
Soon after, messages were sent from the compromised account to contacts, asking for money, causing panic and confusion.
She further revealed that the scammer’s location has reportedly been traced and action is expected soon. However, she expressed frustration over the response of authorities, stating that when the victim approached the cybercrime office to file a complaint, they were asked to return later due to staff unavailability.
She emphasized that such cases should be treated as emergencies, as delays can result in serious data loss and increased damage.
The actress urged authorities to ensure that responsible and capable individuals are appointed to handle such sensitive cases, stressing that timely action is crucial in cybercrime situations.
She also used the incident to warn the public, advising people to never share verification codes or personal information with unknown callers.
Shagufta Ejaz stressed the importance of staying alert and protecting personal data, noting that scammers are increasingly using simple tactics to gain access to accounts and exploit people financially.
