Angelina Jolie reveals her mastectomy scars in cover shoot for Time magazine

Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie has made an unforgettable and deeply personal statement by revealing her mastectomy scars publicly for the very first time.

The Oscar-winning actor appears on the cover of the inaugural issue of Time Magazine France, unveiled on Monday, in a striking and widely discussed photoshoot.

In the images, Jolie openly displays the scars from her double mastectomy, marking the first time she has chosen to show them in a major editorial spread.

Speaking candidly to the magazine, Jolie explained the emotion behind her decision. “I share these scars with many women I love. And I'm always moved when I see other women share theirs,” she said.

The photoshoot, captured by photographer Nathaniel Goldberg, features a powerful cover image of Jolie wearing a low-cut top, looking directly into the camera as her scars remain visible and unhidden.

The accompanying images are equally evocative, including a dramatic black-and-white close-up of the 50-year-old star and a softly lit wide shot showing her seated alone in a room, enveloped in misty light.

Jolie first revealed in 2013 that she had undergone a preventive double mastectomy after learning she carried a genetic mutation that significantly increased her cancer risk.

Two years later, in 2015, she also underwent a double oophorectomy. By publicly sharing her medical journey, she helped spark global conversations around cancer prevention and encouraged countless women to pursue early screening and medical care.

Emphasizing the broader issue of healthcare inequality, Jolie told Time France, “Access to screening and care should not depend on financial resources or place of residence.”

The debut issue of Time France also features an interview with the US Ambassador to France, Charles Kushner, marking a notable launch for the publication.

On the professional front, Jolie is preparing for the release of her next film, Coutures, directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Alice Winocour.

The movie, which draws thematic parallels to Jolie’s own experience with cancer, is scheduled to release in French cinemas on February 18, 2026.
