Justice Shahid Bilal named for appellate tribunal for Senate elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formed appellate tribunals to hear objections against nominations filed for Senate elections scheduled to take place on April 2, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Chief Justice of Lahore High Court has sent the name of Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan to the Election Commission for head of the appellate tribunal for Punjab province.

Irfan Ahmad Niazi of PS-21 has already been appointed registrar tribunal Lahore High Court.

The appellate tribunal will hear appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers of candidates against the 12 seats of Senate.

 After completion of process of filing nomination papers for the Upper House elections on Saturday, the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be started. The process would be completed by March 19, while by March 21, appeals could be filed against the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers.

Moreover, decisions on the appeals would be issued by March 25, while polling would be held in the provincial as well as National Assemblies on April 2 from 9am to 4pm.
