Lahore court awards 7 months imprisonment for remarrying without wife’s permission

The family court of Lahore has convicted a person who married a second wife without the permission of his first wife to 7 months imprisonment and a fine of Rs0.5 million.

Judge Adnan Liaquat of Family Court Lahore pronounced the decision on Zona Nasr's application.

In a written decision, the court said that the husband Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan married the second wife without the permission of the first wife.

The verdict said that accused husband Muhammad Aurangzeb did not take the permission of the first wife before the second marriage and the accused violated Section 6 of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance.

The court ordered that the accused is sentenced to 7 months imprisonment for remarrying without permission and if the accused does not pay a fine of Rs0.5 million, he should be kept in prison for one more month.
