Newly-elected Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz will take oath at Governor House tonight at 8pm, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Sunday.

The Punjab Assembly deputy speaker’s office has sent a notification of Hamza Shehbaz’s success as Punjab Chief Minister to the Governor House.

Hamza Shehbaz was elected as Chief Minister of Punjab with 197 votes in the Punjab Assembly session convened on April 16 (yesterday).

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) did not participate in the voting process.

Earlier, both PTI and PML-Q caused a rumpus in the hall of the Punjab Assembly in an apparent move to prevent voting for the election of Punjab Chief Minister.

It is also gauged that PTI’s Governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema may refuse to administer oath to PML-N’s newly-elected Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz for ‘legal reasons’.

It was yet to be decided who will administer oath to the newly-elected chief minister.

According to the Governor House sources, the governor will decide about administering the Oath to Hamza Shehbaz after examining a report into Saturday’s commotion in the Punjab Assembly which he has sought from the assembly secretary.

The governor will take a decision after consulting constitutional experts and leaders on the issue. He has called a meeting of the experts today.

If the governor does not opt to administer the oath then Hamza Shehbaz will be sworn in by the Lahore High Court chief justice.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Lahore tonight to attend the oath-taking ceremony of his son Hamza Shehbaz as Punjab chief minister.

PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz will also be among the 600 guests invited to attend Hamza Shehbaz’s oath-taking ceremony.

PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar said 198 members of the National Assembly, 197 Punjab MPAs, close relatives of the Sharif family and other prominent people have been invited to the ceremony.
