Nepra urged to raise electricity tariff by 27 paisa per unit

The electricity prices in the country are set to go up further as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a proposal for the hike in tariff by 27 paisa per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

According to details, Nepra sought the enhancement in electricity prices under the head of fuel adjustment charges (FAC).

Nepra will hold a hearing on the case on April 28, 2026. CPPA said that 8,93,90,00,000 electricity units were generated during March 2026. DISCOs were provided 8.64,40,0000 units.

CPPA said that the estimated cost per unit of electricity in March was Rs7.99 under the head of fuel adjustment charges.

According to the Central Power Purchasing Agency, 23 percent of electricity was generated from hydel sources in March, while nuclear power contributed 22 percent.

Around 30 percent of electricity was produced using local and imported coal, 10 percent from gas, and 5 percent from RLNG.
